Phase II data show sorafenib to demonstrate efficacy in patients with advanced thyroid carcinoma. The overall clinical benefit rate (partial response + stable disease) was 77% and the drug had an acceptable safety profile.

Janssen have formed a worldwide licensing collaboration with Astex granting them access to Astex’s FGFR inhibitor program as well as two other undisclosed programs. The deal is worth over $37 million in upfront payments, cash and equity payments and research funding with future milestome payments that could total more than $500 million.

Data presented at Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS) meeting show Pharmacyclics’ BTK inhibitor PCI-32765 to have demonstrated efficacy in a model of collagen induced arthritis. PCI-32765 was found to reduce inflammation and inducee regression of the disease.
